NBA All-Time Rank No. 47: Reggie Miller

Ranking the top 50 players in NBA history…

Miller was the three-point king of the NBA before guys like Ray Allen and Stephen Curry came around.

Miller has dropped all the way down to No. 6 all-time in three-pointers made (2,560), but that’s simply an indication of how much the game has changed in the Curry era. (If you’re curious, the players behind Curry and ahead of Miller for all-time three-pointers made are James Harden, Allen, Damian Lillard and Klay Thompson).

Miller averaged 18.2 points per game on 39.5 percent from three over 18 seasons, and he was [known for being clutch](https://www.nba.com/watch/video/this-day-in-history-reggie-miller-scores-8-points-in-9-seconds-vs-the-knicks).

A five-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA selection, Miller never won a championship but reached the 2000 Finals, where he collided with the Kobe-Shaq Lakers.

Miller’s 1995 playoff “eight points in nine seconds” against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, and his 1998 clutch shots against Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls were legendary moments that keep getting replayed on NBA highlight reels (and always will).

Miller was one of the best off-ball movers in the history of the game, running his defenders into the ground and weaving in and out of screens to free himself. His 1997-98 season (19.5 points per game on 43.2 percent from three) was particularly notable, and he pushed Indy deep in the playoffs that year.

At a lanky six-foot-seven, Miller could also be a pesty defender when he wanted to be, and he averaged 1.1 steals per game for his career.

Naysayers to Miller being included on this list will point to his lack of ring and somewhat one-dimensional playing style, but at the end of the day, Miller’s influence on shooters was massive, especially with how the modern game has turned out.
