Cowboys owner Jerry Jones not only received criticism for trading away NFL All-Pro Micah Parsons on Thursday, he was also blasted for his handling of the press conference afterwards.
Jones repeatedly referred to Micah Parsons as “Michael" during the press conference.
Finally, his son and Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones corrected him.
“Did I talk to Michael?” Jerry Jones asked a reporter.
“Micah,” Stephen Jones jumped in and corrected.
Jerry Jones was called out on X for the repeated mistake. Dallas Cowboys reporter RJ Ochoa pointed out Jones’ actions after calling “Micah” "Michael" for the third time.
“Embarrassing and childish behavior," he said.
Former SportsCenter anchor Trey Wingo had a similar reaction.
“Just an utter embarrassment,” he posted on X.
AJ Schulte was critical of Jones’ entire press conference, including the Micah vs. Michael mistake.
"So Jerry Jones today: Called Micah ‘Michael’ numerous times. Referred to run defense in defense of the trade. Unironically pulled off the ‘It could even be a boat’ bit with the draft picks Dallas gets back. Said he’s been thinking about this trade for months. Masterful stuff."
Perhaps the trade will work out for the Cowboys and Jones, but right now he is receiving plenty of criticism.
The trade of Micah Parsons to the Packers ended an eventful offseason filled with plenty of twists and turns for Parsons and Dallas.
The former Harrisburg High School star was frustrated throughout the offseason that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones failed to negotiate with Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, during contract negotiation talks.
Parsons’ frustration led to him eventually requesting a trade out of Dallas.
On Thursday, that trade request was finally granted, marking one of the biggest trades in NFL history.
Parsons agreed to a four-year contract that will pay him an average of $47 million per year as a part of the trade to the Packers.
He is set to make $6 million more per year than any non-quarterback in the NFL. Steelers star T.J. Watt had been the highest-paid non-QB at $41 million annually.
Parsons was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021 and has made the Pro Bowl all four of his seasons in the NFL.
He was drafted by the Cowboys with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after starring at Harrisburg High and Penn State.
The 26-year-old is one of only three players in the NFL to record 12-plus sacks in at least four of the past five seasons.
Now, he is on the move.
