Everton could be about to launch another attempt to try and sign Victor Lindelof ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Toffees have had a mixed start to the new season, and are still hopeful to strengthen their squad further in the final few days of the window.

Lindelof has been earmarked as an Everton target, and he could be set to return to the Premier League just months after he was released by Manchester United.

The Swede’s vast level of experience would be a huge positive for David Moyes, and he could yet join his ranks before the imminent cut-off.

Everton to hijack Fiorentina deal with £120k-a-week Victor Lindelof approach

Everton have made an approach to sign Lindelof on a free transfer in the last few days, but he is reportedly closing in on a move to join Fiorentina, according to the print edition of Corriere Fiorentino (29 August).

A move to the Florence outfit would see him gain Europa Conference League football and link back up with David De Gea.

Lindelof is understood to have been earning a weekly wage in the region of £120,000 per week during his last contract at United, as per Capology estimates.

Lindelof has over 190 Premier League appearances to his name

He also has a combined 61 games of Champions League and Europa League experience

He hasn’t started over 15 league games in a single season since 2021/22

Ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that the Toffees could yet be able to hijack the deal for the defender, if they match his previous wages at Old Trafford.

“I think Moyes is a bit worried about (Jarrad) Branthwaite with his injury, and I don’t think he’s that certain about (Michael) Keane,” King said.

“The one thing that Lindelof has got is decent pace. He’s not a nasty centre half, but he cleans things up and he covers well.

“He’s a free transfer, so I would think Everton could match that figure from United. If they were to buy him, he would have cost between £12million and £15m.

“I can’t see Fiorentina matching that kind of money. The only thing in their favour is that they’ve got European football.

“If he wants to keep playing at the top level then Everton could be his best bet.”

David Moyes needs a new defender

Nathan Patterson appears set to leave Everton on loan in the coming days, which will likely mean Jake O’Brien continues to fill in on the right side of the defence.

With that in mind, a new central defender is surely a must for Moyes and Co. before Monday.

If you exclude O’Brien, they are left with just three senior options, and that simply will not be enough as the season unfolds.

They have to secure another option, and Lindelof would be ideal given the level of experience that he could provide.

However, even if that deal is now off the table for the Merseysiders, they have to find another way to strengthen.
