Man United squad 'losing faith' in two struggling stars after rocky start

Manchester United's first-team squad are reportedly 'losing confidence' in their two senior goalkeepers, with both Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana struggling in the early stages of the campaign.

Bayindir has been given the nod for both of Man United's Premier League matches this season, but he made the mistake that led to Arsenal scoring the winner on the first matchday of the new campaign, before looking shaky in the team's 1-1 draw with Fulham last weekend.

Onana was between the sticks for the EFL Cup fixture with Grimsby Town on Wednesday night, but it was a difficult night for the Cameroon international.

The 2023 arrival from Inter Milan was at fault for Grimsby's two goals in the 2-2 draw, and he then only managed to save one penalty in the shootout, as the League Two side won 12-11.

According to the Manchester Evening News, 'confidence is dwindling' in Bayindir and Onana, with a number of Man United players questioning whether either is good enough to be the number one.

Bayindir is expected to be back between the sticks for Saturday's Premier League game against Burnley, with Onana on the bench, and exits for either at this stage are seen as unlikely.

"It's not about Andre. We are here with all due respect. I already said that the best team won. But this is a fourth division team. Andre should play just with his feet during this game? It's not that that happened," said Amorim on Wednesday when questioned on Onana's struggles against Grimsby.

"It's not the goalkeeper. It's more than that."

Man United continue to be linked with a move for Royal Antwerp's Senne Lammens, but there is not anything imminent regarding a potential deal for the 23-year-old.

Galatasaray are also thought to be in the mix for Lammens, with Man United facing the prospect of having Bayindir as their number one until the January transfer window.

Man United must sign a goalkeeper before the transfer deadline

Man United have boosted their attack this summer, but they have incredibly failed to bring in a new goalkeeper despite their obvious problems in that area of the field last season.

Neither Onana nor Bayindir have proven themselves to be good enough to be Man United's number one, and it is absolutely vital that the club sign a stopper before the transfer window closes.

Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma is available, but Man United have thus far decided against making a move for the Italy international.
