It was feared Huggins had suffered another serious injury blow when he failed to reappear for the second half at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night.
However, the defender was able to take part in training at the Academy of Light this morning, and is in contention for a place on the bench tomorrow.
“He [Huggins] recovered well because he was in good shape this morning and trained,2 said Le Bris. “We don’t have any other new injury issues. We have, at the minute, 15 or 16 potential starters.”
Tomorrow’s game will see Jordan Henderson make an emotional return to Wearside, with the former England international having joined Brentford in the summer following his release from Ajax.
Sunderland were heavily linked with a possible move for the Wearsider, who started his career in the club’s youth ranks, but opted not hold talks, with Switzerland skipper Granit Xkaha instead arriving to fill the defensive-midfield role in Le Bris’ first-choice XI.
“We know all about him [Henderson],” said the Sunderland boss. “He is a really good player, very experienced. It is important for any squad at this level to have this right balance with young players and more experienced players amongst the group.”

Brentford are going through a period of major transition, with Keith Andrews having been handed the reins in the summer following the departure of former boss Thomas Frank. The Bees have lost Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard, with Yoane Wissa also expected to be excluded from the squad for tomorrow’s game as he tries to force through a move to Newcastle United.
However, amid all that upheaval, they have still enjoyed a strong start to the season, following up last weekend’s league win over Aston Villa with a midweek Carabao Cup victory at Bournemouth.
“We don’t expect any gifts from them,” said Le Bris. “They are a well-rounded team, well-organised, and have good experience in the Premier League now. We'll face a tough opponent for sure.
“It's not always easy after two games to assess the real identity for this season, but we know they have many good players and they are well-coached. They are really strong on set-pieces, direct, with good players, and they can play short or long, so it is a good challenge for us.”
