"Sometimes I want to quit"- Ruben Amorim honest with media ahead of Burnley Clash

Ruben Amorim faced the media ahead of Manchester United's clash with Burnley in gameweek three of the Premier League. The pressure is growing on the head coach after the humiliating loss suffered at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Amorim faced questions on the defeat, alongside what his comments after the game meant for both the match against Burnley and his future as head coach of the Red Devils.

Here is what the 40-year-old had to say.

"I'm going to be who I am" - Amorim defends comments made after Grimsby defeat

Following the conclusion of the Grimsby match, Amorim made some brutally honest comments that raised questions surrounding his future at the club.

Now that the dust has settled, Amorim has been asked exactly what he meant by these comments. However, he has stood by what he said, stating that he is a passionate man: "I know that when I speak these thing, to be really honest with you guys every time we had, or have in the future, one defeat like that, I’m going to be like that. I’m going to say sometimes I hate, sometimes I love my players, sometimes I want to defend my players."

"This is my way of doing things and I’m going to be like that. I felt in that moment, I was so frustrated and annoyed.

“I know you have a lot of experienced people talking about the way I should perform with the media – to be more constant, to be more calm. I’m not going to be like that. I am trying to accept that, I’m going to be who I am."

Amorim explained that he was disappointed with Wednesday night as he felt that it was a step back from how his team had been performing throughout pre-season and in the season opener against Arsenal: “That’s why I have the passion that I have. In that moment, I was really upset and really disappointed, because I felt like we had a good pre-season, we were playing better, we were being consistent in the way we played.

“We played badly [for] 30 minutes against Fulham, and then that kind of performance, I was really disappointed with everything. But now, it’s a new game and I’m focused on the next game."

"I don't feel that now", - Amorim dismisses any ideas of stepping down

The comments and attitude of the Manchester United head coach were eerily similar to ones made last season, when Amorim stated that someone else should have taken his place. He was questioned on whether this feeling had changed despite Wednesday's result:"I felt that after the game, I don’t feel that now. It’s a little bit like that. I think that’s the hardest part of the defeat - sometimes it’s not the result, it’s the way we lost or drew that game."

"That is the thing that’s hard to accept, because we can do better. It’s the small things: recovery positions, fight for the ball, running, all these small things. Sometimes, we dropped a little bit the level. The good thing is that we now have the next game to put that level up and that is the focus."

"He needs to fight for his place" - Amorim wants Mainoo to stay

United seemingly have a few players on their way out of the club in this final week of the transfer window, with Alejandro Garnacho's move to Chelsea being confirmed, as well as Rasmus Højlund being on the verge of a move to Napoli.

Kobbie Mainoo has been another name rumoured to be on his way out, but Amorim has firmly stated that he wants to keep him:"I want Kobbie to stay. He needs to fight for his place and we need Kobbie. That is not going to change, the rest I don’t know how it’s going to finish.

“I understand that the players who are not playing in this moment are disappointed. Everyone will have the same opportunity to play, you have to fight during the week."
