Shock new £15-20m loan-to-buy opportunity opens up for Leeds United - Report

Leeds United will want an attacking midfield addition before the window shuts, and if they require a reignited move for Sheffield United’s Gus Hamer, they have been given an almighty boost.

Leeds’ need for goals and creative spark is clear as day this weekend as the transfer window nears deadline day on Monday.

How they add more goals to the side remains to be seen, but someone chipping in from attacking midfield would certainly be an ideal boost.

Shock Gustavo Hamer transfer opportunity emerges amidst Leeds United’s long-standing interest

A year ago, Leeds tried their luck with a cheeky £13million opening bid for Gustavo Hamer, before Sheffield United’s rattled response underlined the Whites’ chances of securing a deal with their then-Championship rivals.

How keen Leeds are right now heading into the final stages of the summer window is hard to speculate, but given the long-running failure to land lucrative attacking targets, the 28-year-old may well be an option the club pursue.

Now, after three straight defeats to kickstart their Championship campaign, the Blades could well sanction an exit for Hamer to the Premier League.

That’s according to FourFourTwo’s Joe Donnohue, who reports that the Bramall Lane club could sanction a loan with a £15-20million obligation to buy before Monday’s deadline.

Hamer’s standout performances under Chris Wilder earned him the Championship Player of the Season award in 24/25, and is not believed to be pushing for a move away from the South Yorkshire club, despite this revelation swinging the door wide open for Premier League clubs to tempt him away.

Premier League clubs are claimed to have turned down the chance to sign Hamer earlier in the window, but this new structuring of a possible deal could make it a much more viable signing, potentially including Leeds.

Gus Hamer would still be a very good signing for Leeds United in the final days of the window

The optics of the window right now are obviously not ideal, and any signing from here until the end of the window may be seen as underwhelming or a backup option.

However, Hamer would undoubtedly be a good signing for Leeds, especially on loan with an obligation to buy of this nature.

He’d add goals, creativity and a much-needed set piece threat to the side too, which are all things we’re desperate for.
