Shilo Sanders, son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders and former Colorado safety, was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before NFL-mandated roster cuts Tuesday. Now he’s weighing his options as he faces an uncertain football future.
In a video he posted on his YouTube page Thursday, Sanders thanked the Buccaneers for signing him as an undrafted free agent and letting him participate in training camp, but he is deciding what is next for his future.
“I’ve been talking to my agent and we’re waiting on the next opportunity,” Sanders said. “If that’s the NFL, cool, but God’s blessed me with a lot of talents to do other things other than play football. I feel like in every athlete’s life, it becomes a point where the game ends for you. I’m not saying that’s what it is now. I’m just saying mentally I’m good because I know that I got a lot of talents and I’ve been blessed. Every athlete comes to this point where you find yourself without the game of football and then you are thinking about what you can do next.”
Those other talents include music, acting and modeling , areas that Sanders said he’s pursued throughout his life alongside football.
“I’ve always done that my whole life playing football with music, acting and modeling,” Sanders said. “I’m well-versed and my parents made sure of that. I’ve been prepared for anything to happen because you never know what could happen. I truly believe God has a big plan for me and I’m grateful to bring you along with me and keep you updated on everything.”
Sanders finished with 67 tackles, a sack, two tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries in his final season at Colorado in 2024. Although he went undrafted, the Buccaneers signed him as a free agent, but it was an uphill climb given that the team was already deep at safety.
His brother, Shedeur Sanders, continues his NFL journey as the Cleveland Browns’ third-string quarterback after being named to the position Thursday.
