Eagles name new captains ahead of 2025 season opener

The Eagles have named their captains ahead of this season’s Super Bowl defense.

Philadelphia has named the following players as captains for the 2025 season:

— Jalen Hurts, quarterback

— Saquon Barkley, running back

— Lane Johnson, offensive tackle

— Jordan Mailata, offensive tackle

— A.J. Brown, wide receiver

— Zack Baun, linebacker

— Reed Blankenship, safety

— Jake Elliott, placekicker

Barkley, Baun and Blankenship are first-time captains after stellar 2024 seasons.

Barkley rushed for 2,000-plus yards and won NFL Offensive Player of the Year after joining as a free agent from the New York Giants. Baun came out of nowhere to earn first-team All-Pro status. And Blankenship proved to be a stable playmaker in the secondary.

Hurts, Brown, Johnson, Mailata and Elliott are holdover captains from last year. The Eagles had to replace a pair of captains: retired edge rusher Brandon Graham and corner Darius Slay.

All eight of the Eagles’ captains will be key cogs in Philadelphia’s attempt to win back-to-back Super Bowl. The Eagles open the 2025 season next Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field against the Cowboys — a Dallas team without Micah Parsons.
