West Ham’s desperate need for attacking reinforcements has never been more obvious.
Three games, three defeats, only three goals scored — and none of them from a recognised forward. Two have come from Lucas Paquetá, one from Tomáš Souček, while the closest we’ve come to a striker hitting the net was Niclas Füllkrug’s disallowed effort against Chelsea.
Add in the Kudus-shaped hole out wide after his departure, and Graham Potter’s squad is looking painfully short of spark and cutting edge.
Luckily, it seems Potter has a particular player in mind to fix that problem.

According to a fresh report from German outlet BILD, relayed by Sports Witness, West Ham are preparing a late swoop for Wolfsburg winger Patrick Wimmer — a player Potter is said to be a big admirer of.
The Austrian international has long dreamed of playing in the Premier League, and with Wolfsburg bracing themselves for late-window activity, Wimmer could be on the move before the deadline.
Since joining Wolfsburg in 2022, the 24-year-old has racked up 79 appearances, chipping in with nine goals, while also earning 24 caps for Austria.
He’s not just a steady presence, though — former Wolfsburg coach (and ex-Southampton boss) Ralph Hasenhüttl couldn’t have spoken more highly of him.
“He is incredibly dynamic and always difficult to defend against. He wins a lot of balls and his pace creates dangerous counter-attacks,” said Hasenhüttl of Wimmer. “He can’t sit back, he must continue to develop, then he has a great futurre.”
If West Ham do move, let’s hope Wimmer can fulfil that prophecy and have a truly “great future” at the London Stadium — and one that help Potter’s struggling side turn their fortunes around.
