Aston Villa are reportedly making progress in their efforts to bring Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Asensio back to Villa Park.
Asensio impressed during his loan spell with Villa in the second half of last season, scoring eight goals and providing one assist in 21 competitive matches.
The Spaniard has since returned to the French capital, but is looking to find a new club before the transfer deadline after being deemed surplus to requirements by PSG boss Luis Enrique.
According to L’Equipe, Aston Villa are closing in on a deal to sign Asensio on a permanent deal before Monday’s deadline.
The report claims that the Villans have made an €15m (£13m) offer, while PSG are holding out for a €20m (£17.3m) fee for a player who has entered the final year of his contract.
There may be a small difference in their respective valuations, but Aston Villa and PSG are optimistic of reaching an agreement for Asensio’s transfer.

Dortmund reject Brentford's Beier bid
Elsewhere, Brentford have reportedly had a transfer bid rejected by Borussia Dortmund for striker Maximilian Beier.
The Bees appear to be looking for a replacement for Yoane Wissa, who is yet to play this season as he continues to hold out for a move to Newcastle United.
Brentford had identified Beier as a possible target, but they have ultimately failed in their efforts to prise the forward away from Dortmund.
According to Sky Sports News, Brentford have seen a £45m offer rejected by Dortmund for the 22-year-old.
The Bees are not expected to return with a new bid, and have already turned their focus to alternative forward targets.
Beier is under contract until the summer of 2029 and is believed to be keen to stay at Dortmund to fight for his place in Niko Kovac’s side.

Celtic delay Idah to Swansea move
Meanwhile, Championship side Swansea City are having to remain patient in their pursuit of Celtic striker Adam Idah.
The Swans are seemingly keen to strengthen Alan Sheehan’s forward options before the transfer window shuts on Monday.
According to Sky Sports News, the striker has agreed personal terms and has already completed a medical ahead of his proposed £7m switch.
However, the report claims that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has called the 24-year-old back to Celtic for the time being.
Rodgers wants the Hoops to sign a suitable replacement before he gives the green light for Idah to leave the club.
Celtic are believed to be in advanced talks to sign Anderlecht striker Kasper Dolberg, and if they can secure the Dane’s signature, Idah should receive the go-ahead to join Swansea.
