Ipswich Town Under-21s were held to a 2-2 draw by Southampton in the Premier League 2 at Colchester United’s JobServe Community Stadium.
John McGreal and Chris Casement’s side went into the game after back-to-back wins over Derby County and Leeds United.
The young Blues got off to a quick start, with midfielder Steven Turner giving them the lead in the fourth minute. Forward Jamie Mauge doubled their lead five minutes later.
Town boss Kieran McKenna was in attendance and was spotted talking to Colchester United manager Danny Cowley at half-time.
The Saints pulled a goal back in the 67th minute via Samuel Tabares before Town were reduced to ten men when Turner was shown a second yellow card.
Then, with 15 minutes remaining, the visitors levelled via Sufianu Sillah Dibaga, but neither side were able to find a winner to share the points.
Before the final whistle, the visitors went down to ten men as well, with Jayden Moore was given his marching orders.
The young Blues now sit fourth in the table and return to action after the international break when they travel to leaders Chelsea on September 20th.
