Graham Potter fuels hopes of West Ham renaissance after dreadful start to the Premier League…

**West Ham United manager Graham Potter has backed himself to turn things around after a disastrous start to the season.**

The English manager insists that the Hammers are moving in the right direction, claiming he has “stabilised” the club and believes they are close to finding their rhythm again.

West Ham kicked off the season with a disappointing 3-0 defeat against newly promoted Sunderland.

They followed that up with a 5-1 trouncing at the hands of capital rivals Chelsea at the London Stadium before crashing out of the EFL Cup at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Losing three out of their opening three games of the season has placed Potter under enormous pressure.

However, the former Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea head coach is calm about the situation and optimistic about getting a result against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

“I’m an experienced manager,” Potter said during his [pre-match press conference](https://www.whufc.com/news/talking-points-potter-his-hopes-response-tackling-tricky-trees-and-welcoming-fernandes). “I try my best, and it’s my job to help the players.

“We’re all hurting because the pre-season was encouraging. But the results haven’t been what we want, and we are not shying away from the fact that things haven’t been good.

“But at the same time, there are a lot of connections and commitment in the team. And I don’t think we are far away from a performance and a result that gets things on a good path.”

West Ham are going through one of the worst phases in their top-flight history. Potter needs to get a positive result against Forest to lift the mood, or he could be facing the axe.

Despite the poor results, the manager believes that the work done over the summer has given the Hammers a strong foundation to build on.

He has decided to focus on the positives and points to the “togetherness” within the squad as a sign of progress that will eventually improve performances on the pitch.

Potter has hardly gotten the backing he needs to turn things around, but West Ham have flown out of the blocks in the transfer market over the past couple of weeks.

They’ve already announced the signing of Mateus Fernandes from Southampton and are hoping to add [AS Monaco midfielder Soungoutou Magassa](https://westhamblog.co.uk/posts/west-ham-working-on-personal-terms-with-soungoutou-magassa/) to the mix.
