Head coach Nick Sirianni and the Eagles could make tight end Dallas Goedert a focal point of the offense in 2025.

General manager Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles were able to bring tight end Dallas Goedert back into the fold for 2025 by reworking his contract after months of trade speculation this spring.

Thanks to a deep tight end class, and Goedert’s rising price tag, conventional wisdom suggested the 30-year-old could be a trade chip for Roseman to deploy during the NFL Draft.

However, after restructuring Goedert’s contract, and the veteran tight end entering the 2025 campaign fully healthy after a knee injury wreaked havoc on his 2024 season, CBS Sports’ Joel Corry believes Goedert is a top candidate for a big bounce back season ahead.

“Goedert had been the subject of trade rumors prior to the 2025 NFL Draft,” Corry writes for CBS. “His inability to remain in the lineup had become an issue for the Eagles. Goedert has missed 17 games since signing a four-year, $57 million extension, averaging $14.25 million per year, in 2021. He had his worst production last season since he was a rookie in 2018 by catching 42 passes for 496 yards with two touchdowns in 10 games.

“In early May a few days after the draft, Goedert took a $4.25 million pay cut to $10 million in order to remain in Philadelphia for the final year of his contract. The Eagles will have $23,693,640 of dead money if Goedert, who is 30, hits the open market in 2026. It remains to be seen whether a new deal will be worked out before Goedert’s 2026 through 2029 contract years void Feb. 16 with a healthy 2025 season.”

Last season, Goedert caught 42 passes for 496 yards, but a career-low two touchdown receptions.

If Goedert able to return to form, he could become a significant weapon in an offense where opposing defenses have to pay major attention to the likes of Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith.

Should Goedert once again become a force in the Eagles’ offense, he could set himself up for a significant payday next offseason.

The Eagles announced their captains for the upcoming season, Friday, and they are a mix of youth and veterans.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts was voted a captain for the fifth time in his career, meaning he’ll be wearing the gold captain’s patch for the Eagles this upcoming season.

Hurts will be joined on offense by captains Lane Johnson, Barkley, Jordan Mailata, and Brown.

Defensively, the Eagles named Zack Baun, and Reed Blankenship as captains with kicker Jake Elliott holding the honor among Philadelphia’s special teams units.

“It’s amazing,” Baun, who is entering his second season in Philadelphia, said in a statement released by the team. “It’s awesome. (It’s) better than any achievement I’ve gotten to date. It means a lot because it’s something that’s voted on by my teammates.”

The Eagles kickoff the 2025 NFL season, when Philadelphia hosts the NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night, Sept. 3 at Lincoln Financial Field.
