Ex-Giants player, NJ native gets released

The Patriots are releasing safety Jabrill Peppers, according to ESPN.

Peppers, a nine-year veteran, was in his fourth year with the Patriots and has $4.32 million guaranteed remaining on his contract.

The move shakes up the back-end of New England’s defense. Jaylinn Hawkins and rookie Craig Woodson will be the team’s top safeties with Kyle Dugger and Dell Pettus behind them on the depth chart.

Peppers, an East Orange native, went to Don Bosco Prep and graduated from Paramus Catholic before playing at Michigan. After three years with the Wolverines, he declared for the NFL Draft and was picked in the first round, with the 25th overall pick, by the Cleveland Browns in 2017.

Peppers was acquired by theGiants in a trade that sent Odell Beckham Jr. to the Brownsin 2019. He played three seasons with the Giants before joining the Patriots in 2022.
