Tottenham could make a late offer for Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher
Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a strong start to the new season, winning both their opening two games in the Premier League under Thomas Frank. The same thing cannot be said about their dealings in the transfer market.
Spurs have had a disappointing transfer window thus far, managing just one marquee signing in Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United. They have also added Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich, but the hunt for a playmaker continues. Good news for the fans is on the way, with the Lilywhites having agreed a deal with RB Leipzig for Xavi Simons.
In addition to the potential acquisition of Simons, Thomas Frank perhaps also wants to bring in another body in the middle of the park. This has been demonstrated by Tottenham’s interest in signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Conor Gallagher only joined Atletico Madrid from Chelsea last summer, in a deal that saw Joao Felix head the other way. The Englishman started only half of Atletico Madrid’s league games during the 2024/25 campaign, racking up six goal contributions from the middle of the park. However, the La Liga club are ready to part ways with the central midfielder after just one season.
According to a report from Spanish newspaper Marca (h/t Sport Witness), Atletico Madrid are preparing themselves for the possibility of a potential offer for Gallagher from Tottenham. The north Londoners are one of the ‘most interested’ clubs in the 25-year-old, who is valued between €50-60m.
Spurs were keen on signing Gallagher last year, but Chelsea were reluctant to sell him to their bitter London rivals. Instead, he moved to Spain to play for Diego Simeone’s side, for whom his performances have been mixed. But ahead of next summer’s World Cup, the Epson-born talent would know the importance of playing regularly if he wants to seal a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

The Lilywhites want to compete well in all four fronts this season, and for that, Frank must have a bigger and better squad than last season. The Dane will be required to replace any senior player that departs in the final days of the transfer window, as he would not want to weaken his squad ahead of a gruelling campaign.
Yves Bissouma appears the most likely player to leave N17, having agreed personal terms with Turkish champions Galatasaray. The Mali international’s departure should make space for a midfield addition, and Gallagher could very well become that player. He is capable of essaying multiple roles in midfield, and that, coupled with his tenacity, pressing, tackling, work rate and running power, makes him ideal for a high-intensity system.
This is a player Frank would love to work with, thanks to the England international’s energy and work ethic. Add that to his Premier League experience and a move for Gallagher makes sense for Tottenham. That said, whether Daniel Levy agrees to meet Atletico’s valuation for the player remains to be seen.
