After a short homestand, the Mariners are back on the road. This three series, nine game trip will take the Mariners to Cleveland, Tampa Bay, and Atlanta. Hopefully it goes better than the last time the Mariners went out East. I hope you like early baseball, because the latest one of these games starts is 4:35pm PT. In fact, first pitch for the Sunday game in Atlanta is at 9:05 AM. It’s nice of the Mariners to be considerate of the Seahawks’ schedule.
First on the docket is the Cleveland Guardians. After briefly occupying and Wild Card slot, they’ve fallen five games back from a playoff berth. That just means that the Mariners need to do what good teams do and put the hurt on a scuffling squad. Their starter for tonight, Logan Allen, is a soft tossing lefty who averages just 91.1 mph on his four-seam fastball. After the Mariners took care of business against JP Sears, maybe their ready to hit lefties again.
George Kirby will be on the bump for Seattle, his 18th start of the year. Kirby’s 2025 season has had its ups and downs, but last time out he was able to give the teams six innings of one-run ball. If there’s one thing George has gained from this season it’s maturity, as he’s been able to bounce back quickly from both small mistakes like walks and big losses like his 8/17 start against the Mets. Here’s hoping we see some of that tonight, mixed in with that classic Kirby aggressive pitching.
