There will be a familiar Penn State face on the sidelines in Saturday’s season opener vs. Nevada at Beaver Stadium.
Adrian Amos, a 10-year NFL veteran and former All-Big Ten safety with the Nittany Lions, will serve as the Week 1 honorary captain. James Franklin announced the homecoming on social media.
“Excited to have our guy back in Happy Valley this weekend!” the head coach wrote.
Amos, a three-star prospect from Baltimore in 2011, appeared in all 40 games Penn State played during his career, including 28 starts. He made 149 tackles, seven interceptions and 16 pass breakups in that time.
The Chicago Bears made Amos a fifth-round pick in 2015, and he went on to earn All-Rookie honors in his first season, playing four seasons in Chicago.
Amos then signed with the NFC North rival Green Bay Packers in 2019, where he has been best remembered. He wrapped his career bouncing around with the Houston Texans, New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers.
Amos appeared in 143 regular-season games with 125 starts. He also played in eight playoff games: one with the Bears, five with the Packers and two with the Texans. His teams never moved past the conference championship game.
Over those 10 seasons, Amos earned nearly $40 million.
