Former Harrisburg High School and Penn State star Micah Parsons is not only changing teams but also jersey numbers as he heads to the Green Bay Packers.
The 26-year-old announced during his press conference on Friday that he will wear No. 1 with the Green Bay Packers.
Parsons previously wore No. 11 during his time with the Cowboys and at Penn State. He was No. 23 when he starred at Harrisburg High.
As Bob Flounders of PennLive pointed out earlier Friday, the Green Bay Packers already have a star player wearing No. 11 in third-year receiver Jayden Reed.
The former Michigan State star has been productive during his time with the Packers, catching 119 passes for 1,650 yards and 14 touchdowns across his first two seasons in the NFL.
Earlier on Friday, Parsons asked on X, “Should I go 0 or 1!”
Parsons announced his new number on Friday as he met with the media for the first time since the blockbuster trade between the Cowboys and Packers occurred on Thursday.
The trade ended an eventful offseason filled with plenty of twists and turns for Parsons and Dallas.
Parsons was frustrated throughout the offseason that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones failed to negotiate with his agent, David Mulugheta, during contract negotiation talks.
Parsons’ frustration led to him eventually requesting a trade out of Dallas.
On Thursday, that trade request was finally granted, marking one of the biggest trades in NFL history.
Parsons agreed to a four-year contract that will pay him an average of $47 million per year as a part of the trade to the Packers.
He is set to make $6 million more per year than any non-quarterback in the NFL. Steelers star T.J. Watt had been the highest-paid non-QB at $41 million annually.
Parsons was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021 and has made the Pro Bowl all four of his seasons in the NFL.
He was drafted by the Cowboys with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after starring at Harrisburg High and Penn State.
The 26-year-old is one of only three players in the NFL to record 12-plus sacks in at least four of the past five seasons.
