Aston Villa could bring back former player, but Chelsea may have other plans - report

Aston Villa fans will hope their club can strengthen in the final days of the transfer window, with the Birmingham-based outfit starting the new season slowly.

Unai Emery’s men have only taken one point from their opening two Premier League games, with a frustrating summer in the transfer window for the Villans also.

Aston Villa signed Evann Guessand to boost their options in attack, but the club have been held back by financial fair play rules in recent months.

However, if European media is to be believed, Aston Villa could be interested in bringing a former player back to Villa Park.

Axel Disasi move being weighed up

Footmercato state Monaco are interested in signing Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, who moved to England from the French south coast in 2023.

The report suggests Monaco want to sign the 27-year-old on loan and could make a move to do so in the next 48 hours as the transfer window moves towards closing.

It states Villa are keeping a close eye on the latest with Disasi and view him as a ‘market opportunity’ if Chelsea are willing to part ways with the defender.

Bournemouth are reportedly also interested, with competition for the French central defender’s services.

Aston Villa’s options limited

Disasi spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa, with the five-times capped France international making seven Premier League appearances for Emery’s men.

The 27-year-old was highly rated when he signed for Chelsea, but in truth the English public have not seen the best of the defender in the last two years.

For Villa, there surely would be other transfer options higher up the club’s priority list, but Disasi could well work as a stop-gap.

His versatility would provide strength in depth for Villa, especially as they compete on multiple fronts this season.

However, given Villa’s financial shackles, another loan move could be a better option than spending a significant fee to land the Frenchman.
