Chamberlain was a physical and statistical colossus. What people don’t realize about Wilt was that he wasn’t just absurdly tall; he was also [very fast](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wfmTVyKgS0). Chamberlain was a track star before committing to basketball full-time.

“Wilt the Stilt” was a freak athlete even by today’s standards — you can only imagine what people in the 1950s and 60s thought of his stature and impossible athleticism.

After playing for the Harlem Globetrotters, Chamberlain entered the NBA with the Philadelphia Warriors in 1959 and ended up playing 14 seasons for the Warriors/76ers (1959-1968) and Los Angeles Lakers (1968-1973).

He averaged a mind-boggling 30.1 points and 22.9 rebounds in his career. A 13-time All-Star, Chamberlain won two championships (1967 with 76ers, 1972 with Lakers) and NBA MVP four times (1960, 1966-1968).

He led the league in scoring a laughable seven straight years (1960-1966), rebounds 11 times, and even assists once (1968).

Famous for his 100-point game in 1962 (NBA record) and averaging 50.4 PPG that season, Chamberlain also had a 55-rebound game. He retired with 31,419 points and 23,924 rebounds (all-time leader).

Despite criticism for limited titles amid Bill Russell’s dominance with the Boston Celtics, Chamberlain revolutionized the game, prompting rule changes like widening the lane.

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1979.
