Matt Maher: Frantic finish to the transfer window looms for all

The final days of the transfer window have arrived with West Midlands clubs still scrambling to get deals over the line.

After a pretty good summer, in which they have significantly lowered the average age of their squad, Albion’s business went into overdrive this week with the bargain signing of Chris Mepham for £1million, which coincided with the sales of Darnell Furlong and Tom Fellows for combined fees of £14m.

Both will need replacing, meaning the finish to the window will be more hectic than perhaps anticipated.

That said, it would be a surprise if the Baggies were allowing the pair to leave without being pretty confident of getting the players they want. Proof will obviously come in performances but so far, this feels a summer shrewdly conducted at The Hawthorns.
