Confirmed: Kabia joins Shrewsbury Town on loan

Arsenal have confirmed that Ismeal Kabia has joined Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan.

The Dutch-born winger made his senior debut for the Gunners in last season’s Carabao Cup rout of Bolton Wanderers and periodically appeared on Arteta’s bench throughout the season, including for the Champions League semi-final first leg against PSG. He was also part of the club’s pre-season Asia tour.

After signing a new contract at the Emirates, the 19-year-old heads to New Meadow to further his development. He follows in the footsteps of Charles Sagoe Junior, who had a stint with the Shrews a couple of seasons ago.

“For me it was very important [to go on loan], I’ve played a couple of seasons of under-21 football and I want to take that next step in my career. I think this is the perfect place,” the teenager told the Shrewsbury website.

Kabia is the second Gunner to head out on loan this summer, following Karl Hein’s move to Werder Bremen. It’s expected that Jakub Kiwior will also join Porto on a season-long arrangement, although they will have an obligation to buy next summer.

We’re expecting several more Arsenal youngsters to move before the transfer window closes at 7pm on Monday.
