Tottenham now 'pushing' to sign Brazilian star after Xavi Simons - report

Tottenham are still pushing to sign Manchester City winger Savinho ahead of the transfer deadline, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The North London side are reportedly keeping contact lines open in case there is an opportunity to strike a late deal despite Man City’s reluctance to sell the 21-year-old forward.

Spurs retain their interest in securing Savinho even after signing Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig on Friday, with Thomas Frank’s side on the lookout for multiple reinforcements to their attacking options late in the window.

The Lilywhites saw former captain Son Heung-min depart to MLS side Los Angeles FC earlier this month and lost James Maddison to a long-term ACL setback.

The England international, whose return could take six to seven months, has joined Dejan Kulusevski on the sidelines as the Swede continues to recover from a knee problem sustained in May.

Tottenham Not Giving Up on Savinho

According to Jones, Tottenham have not completely pulled away from a deal for Savinho as they are convinced the Brazilian himself wants the move to North London.

The 21-year-old’s departure would likely force Man City onto the market to find a late replacement, which is why Pep Guardiola’s side have been reluctant to sell Savinho this late in the window.

Savinho has missed the start of the 2025/26 campaign after picking up an injury in pre-season and is expected to return around the September international break.

The Brazil international, who joined Man City from French side Troyes last summer, made 48 appearances last term, scoring three goals and providing 13 assists.

Tottenham have splashed out around £180m on new signings this summer, with Simons the latest to join in a reported £52m deal on Friday.

The Dutch midfielder followed Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus as other notable arrivals in North London and signed a five-year deal with an option to extend it by a further two seasons.

Tottenham have also struck permanent deals for both Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel, and signed promising defenders Kota Takai and Luka Vuskovic, with the latter expected to join Bundesliga side Hamburg on loan before the deadline.
