West Ham are about to sack Graham Potter in a huge development at the London Stadium.

The 50-year-old has been coming under ever-increasing pressure in E20 following a dismal start to the Premier League season, and there has been near-constant speculation that he could lose his job.

Potter’s situation at West Ham has become even more grave following their Carabao Cup defeat to Wolves in midweek, in a game that saw his side throw away a lead in the latter stages.

The Hammers are firmly stuck in a rut at the moment, but the club’s hierarchy could be about to make a huge decision to change the course of their season.

Jose Mourinho the ‘leading candidate’ to take over from Graham Potter

Time appears to be running out on Potter at West Ham, as he has shown no signs of being able to turn their fortunes around since he was appointed back in January.

Pressure has been continually mounting on the former Chelsea and Brighton boss, and the board could finally be about to take decisive action regarding his future.

Potter is now understood to be “on the verge” of being sacked by West Ham, according to Italian journalist Lorenzo Lepore via his X account.

He adds that Jose Mourinho is currently one of the “leading candidates” to take over at the London Stadium, with the legendary Portuguese boss available once again after his recent dismissal by Fenerbahce.

Mourinho would be perfect for West Ham

Mourinho would be a perfect appointment for West Ham given the predicament that they currently find themselves in.

There is plenty of division between the fans and the club at the moment, and the arrival of the 62-year-old would surely unite everybody towards the common goal of improving the team.

Mourinho can be an abrasive character at times, but he would be the perfect man to help lift the Hammers from their slump and make them a force to be reckoned with once again.

He has spent time away from the Premier League in recent years, and as such, he could be desperate to take up the opportunity to get back into English football.

There can be no doubt that he would have a big job on his hands in E20, but Mourinho has never shied away from a challenge, and the prospect of rebuilding a team in the top flight could certainly be one that appeals to him.
