Liverpool player travelling for medical in ‘next few hours’ – ‘Strong desire’ to leave Reds

Over the past two weeks or so, AS Roma have been chasing Liverpool’s Konstantinos Tsimikas.

The Premier League winners were initially reluctant to sanction a dry loan move before softening their stance. This has allowed Roma to make progress in their efforts to sign the left-back this summer.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have closed the operation to sign the Liverpool player on loan late in this window.

That’s according to Saturday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, and they say the 29-year-old will soon be a Roma player.

That’s because the Reds have given the green light for him to travel to Italy to undergo medical checks and sign the contract with the Serie A club.

The Greece international is said to be earning £3.6m per year at Anfield. The newspaper Liverpool have decided to lighten the club’s wage bill by releasing him, also because Arne Slot has Milos Kerkez and Andrew Robertson as two other left backs at his disposal.

Over at Corriere dello Sport, they also report Roma are set to sign the defender on loan. Liverpool have given approval for Tsimikas to travel, and he’ll make the trip to Italy in the ‘next few hours’ to carry out medical tests with the Giallorossi.

Liverpool would have agreed terms with the Italian club for his loan transfer. According to that agreement, Corriere reports Roma will have to cover Tsimikas’ salary during his loan stay.

They add the player showed ‘strong desire’ to leave Liverpool for Roma. This would have been key for Liverpool to give their approval for his exit.
