Liverpool’s Joe Gomez has emerged as a surprise target for AC Milan at the end of the summer window.
That’s according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, and he shares the latest on the Serie A side’s interest in the Liverpool player. Milan are working on finding a new centre-back before the window closes on Monday, to support their manager, Massimiliano Allegri.
They have identified Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji as a defensive target. Their sporting director, Igli Tare, has also confirmed that the Rossoneri are looking at the 30-year-old Switzerland international.
Di Marzio covers the Italian club’s interest in Akanji and then reports that he’s not yet opened up to the possibility of moving to the San Siro.
Therefore, Milan are looking for alternatives in the market and have identified Villarreal’s Juan Foyth as an option. They have also added Gomez to the list.
In search of a new centre-back, Di Marzio says Milan could consider making a late move for the 28-year-old England international.
If Milan are serious about him, it’s unclear whether Gomez and/or Liverpool are willing to negotiate his exit at this stage of the window.
Gomez’s contract expires in 2027 and he’s played 18 minutes so far for Liverpool this season.
