Man United are prepared to extend Jadon Sancho’s contract in a surprise twist after the winger turned down a move to Roma.
The former Borussia Dortmund star enjoyed a strong stint in the capital with Chelsea last season, but the Blues decided to pay a penalty fee to stop his loan becoming a permanent move.
Sancho impressed Enzo Maresca during his time at Stamford Bridge, and although his time in West London began well enough, the 25-year-old was not productive enough on the pitch to warrant a full-time move to the Club World Cup champions.
Since returning to Old Trafford, Sancho has been a part of Man United’s “bomb squad” alongside the likes of Antony, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho.
But whilst all of those trio have secured a move, or are in the process of securing a move out of Manchester, the England international’s future remains shrouded in clarity.

Man United block Jadon Sancho free transfer exit
Roma made an offer for Sancho worth £20million, and whilst it was accepted by the club, the winger turned it down in the hopes of another club securing his services.
However, with no other teams stepping up to the plate, United are expecting a second bid, The i reports.

Sancho, though, may choose to once again snub Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, as with just one year remaining on his contract, he could sit out next season and then explore the market as a free agent, with sources close to him admitting a stay can’t be ruled out.
But United are well aware of that possibility, and thanks to a one-year extension clause in his contract, could prolong his time in Manchester to avoid losing the winger for free.
Jadon Sancho would thrive at Roma
Football Insider Verdict
The existence of the Glazer family and Jim Ratcliffe means that Sancho will never quite be enemy number one at Old Trafford, but he’s definitely no longer in the good books of the supporters.
For the 25-year-old, it’s a shame that Chelsea decided not to extend his stay in West London, given he showed flashes of what he is capable of.
However, Roma are affording Sancho a lifeline that he should absolutely be grabbing onto with both hands.

Coached by Gasperini, a bona fide attacking guru who turned Ademola Lookman into a Ballon d’Or contender, the Italian powerhouses set up in the perfect way for the Englishman to thrive in.
Sancho would be used as a wide 10, which makes total sense for his skillset. Whilst not slow, the winger does not have the pace to thrive in the Premier League, but his technical abilities would allow him to fluidly move through Roma’s attack, finding the space that best suits him.
And even when you ignore the tactics, the Serie A has been the place to go when your career in the Premier League is flagging, as Scott McTominay proved last year.
