Liverpool have submitted a British transfer record bid for Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, according to CaughtOffside.
The reigning Premier League champions have reportedly tabled a bid worth around £130m for the ‘world-class’ Sweden international, who is desperate to leave for Anfield in the final days of the summer transfer window.
Newcastle, who initially valued Isak at £150m, are said to be prepared to drop their asking price following their deal to sign Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade as a replacement.
This has opened the doors for Liverpool to make a new, improved proposal for Isak, which Newcastle have not yet rejected, with open dialogue expected to take place between all parties.
Isak is believed to have already agreed personal terms to join Liverpool, and there is optimism that he will be heading to Anfield before Monday’s transfer deadline.
‘Secret’ Meetings Held Over Isak Deal
Alexander Isak in action for Newcastle United
According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool and Newcastle representatives have been having ‘secret’ meetings for a week in attempts to reach an agreement over the transfer fee for Isak.
The discussions are believed to be developing well, with Liverpool edging closer to signing their number one target and capping off an incredible window for the club.
Arne Slot’s side have splashed out close to £300m on new arrivals this summer, including a club-record £116m deal for former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz.
The Reds also have the second most expensive signing of the summer, with Hugo Ekitike joining from Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported £79m package.
Isak is unlikely to play for Newcastle again, with St James’ Park chiefs recently failing to convince the 25-year-old striker to return to Eddie Howe’s first-team squad.
The Sweden international is training away from his Newcastle team-mates after making clear he wants to join Liverpool, despite having three years left on his contract.
Isak released a statement on social media following Newcastle’s decision to reject Liverpool’s opening bid, accusing the club of breaking a promise to allow him to leave this summer.
The 25-year-old enjoyed a career-best season at St James’ Park in 2024/25, scoring 27 goals and providing six assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.
