Report: Champions League club looking to sign 'wonderful' Man City player, they can give him…

Manchester City duo Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake are both in Tottenham Hotspur’s sights ahead of transfer deadline day.

With Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola looking to reduce his squad size, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake have both been made available for the right price.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are looking for late reinforcements at the back as Thomas Frank looks to bolster his ranks to compete on multiple fronts this season.

With time running out before Monday’s transfer deadline, clubs are set to step up their efforts in terms of both incomings and outgoings.

Tottenham reportedly made a move for Akanji on Friday, but AC Milan are also firmly in the picture for Akanji along with Crystal Palace.

Indeed, Milan’s Igli Tare has confirmed that Akanji is a player of interest for the Serie A giants.

Journalist Tom Barclay has now reported on Spurs’ interest in Akanji, reiterating that they are keen on making a move for the Swiss star.

He also claimed that Tottenham could have a big advantage over Akanji’s other suitors as the defender’s preference is to play Champions League football.

Spurs are in the Champions League this season, while Milan and Palace are not.

In addition, The Sun’s report touched upon speculation linking Ake with Tottenham, something Spurs fans hope is concrete.

However, the outlet’s sources have ‘played down the prospects of that transfer’.

What our Manchester City sources have said about Manuel Akanji’s transfer stance

Manchester City News recently spoke to GRV Media‘s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey about what Man City have planned for the last few days of the transfer window.

When it came to Akanji’s future, Bailey said the player is mulling over his next step, but also said there’s a good chance the defender stays put.

“He’s thinking about his future, but there’s a real chance he stays actually,” said Bailey. “I think he’s considering what to do – keep an eye on him for sure.”

The 30-year-old has been a solid player for City over the years, with Danny Murphy previously describing Akanji “incredible” and “wonderful”.

However, the consensus among a fair few Man City fans is that Akanji is now surplus to requirements and should leave the club.
