Tottenham are eyeing a ‘stunning’ late deal to sign Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline, according to former scout Mick Brown.
The North London side are reportedly speaking to Villa about a potential move to sign the England international, with Thomas Frank earmarking Rogers as one of his top attacking midfield targets.
Spurs are on the market for late reinforcements to their attacking options following Son Heung-min’s departure to MLS and James Maddison’s injury setback, which could keep him out for the entire 2025/26 campaign.
They signed the Netherlands attacking midfielder Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig on a seven-year deal on Friday, after missing out on Eberechi Eze, who joined Arsenal last week.

Morgan Rogers in action for Aston Villa
According to Brown, Tottenham have spoken to Villa about Rogers’ potential availability and feel they can get a deal done before the deadline, although it would be another expensive signing.
While manager Unai Emery wants to keep the England international at Villa Park, the club’s financial issues may play a part in their decision regarding Rogers, with Tottenham now exploring an ‘ambitious’ move:
“Morgan Rogers would be an ambitious move for Tottenham. The main thing with Villa at the moment, there are those financial issues hanging over them.
“They haven’t been able to spend big, so they want to keep the players they have got, and that will direct Morgan Rogers’ future and whether they let him go.
“He’s done really well at Villa so it’s no surprise there is interest in him. I’m told Tottenham have spoken to Villa about whether he might be available.
“Unai Emery wants to keep him, he’s one of his better players so that’s a given really. Spurs feel they can get a deal done, but if they do it certainly won’t be cheap.”
Rogers, who joined Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024, blossomed into one of the best attacking midfielders in the country during his 18 months in the West Midlands.
The £80m-rated 23-year-old has registered 17 goals and 17 assists in 72 appearances for Villa to date and was named the PFA Young Player of the Year earlier this month.
Rogers was rewarded with a fresh Villa contract extension in November amid his fine form, with new terms keeping him at the club until the summer of 2030.
Tottenham also looked at signing his England teammate Morgan Gibbs-White this summer, but the move collapsed, with the midfielder signing a new long-term deal with Nottingham Forest.
