"Here we go" - Fabrizio Romano says Crystal Palace have now agreed deal for 'powerful' star

Crystal Palace are edging closer to securing the services of centre-back Jaydee Canvot, having agreed a deal with Toulouse, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Palace recently ensured that they would be taking part in their first-ever European campaign by beating Fredrikstad across two legs in Conference League qualification. Their path to continental football appeared when, last season, manager Oliver Glasner guided them to their first-ever piece of major silverware, beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

The Eagles, who went on to win the Community Shield against Liverpool, have endured a slow summer due to legal proceedings over which European competition they would play in. Earlier this summer, the club recruited goalkeeper Walter Benitez on a free and paid a low fee for left-back Borna Sosa.

Having sold star Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, Yeremy Pino has been signed to replace the number 10 as Palace remain in the market for further additions ahead of the transfer deadline on the 1st September. Now, it would seem that the Selhurst Park side are close to bolstering their defensive ranks.

With Eze already having departed the club, Palace are understandably reluctant to lose any more of their star players. Liverpool remain interested in club captain Marc Guehi, who is in the final year of his contract and expected to leave Palace, either before the upcoming deadline or as a free agent next summer.

Regardless of where Guehi spends the 2025/26 season, Palace are in need of defensive depth for their three-centre-back system, especially with European football on their calendar. Romano, in turn, has reported that Palace have agreed a deal to sign Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse and are “finalising documents” with the French club.

At just 19 years of age, Canvot broke into the Toulouse first team last season, becoming an important part of the squad as they finished 10th in Ligue 1. A player who already has evident quality, Canvot, who has been dubbed a “powerful” defender, has an incredibly high amount of potential.

In Canvot, Palace would be making an exciting addition to their defence, which would remain true whether Guehi ultimately stays or departs. Comfortable progressing forward with the ball at his feet, Canvot could prove to be a seamless fit in Glasner’s tactical set-up as the Austrian looks to continue his brilliant work in South London thus far.
