News of Gavi’s fitness blow just before Barcelona’s clash against Rayo Vallecano brought worry to the management and fans across the globe, especially given that the player was just beginning to find his footing back in the team.
What made the news worse, however, was that the injury was to the same knee that had been operated on for a torn ACL previously – thus sparking worry of a possible complication.
The player was immediately ruled out of the upcoming game against Rayo Vallecano and will sit out the international break as well. Meanwhile, the club began seriously conducting tests to ascertain the actual severity.
Early signs
As relayed in a recent report by Que T’hi Jugues, Gavi’s camp and the dressing room affirm that the former Golden Boy winner has not sustained any serious injury. All tests have been completed and his entourage appears confident that it is just discomfort.
The player’s leg had considerable swelling, but there is optimism that it is not a major blow and that he can recover with some rest. He will thus miss Barcelona’s game and the Spanish national team duty as he withdrew from the same.

Hansi Flick and Co. will hope that the tests conducted today concur in opinion with Gavi’s entourage and that it is indeed something minor for the player is a critical part of the manager’s plans this season.
The 21-year-old made his comeback from injury midway through last season but was gradually phased into prominence by the manager to avoid any form of relapse.
It was only in pre-season that he was seen in full flow, making a statement that he is ready for major responsibility once more. In fact, he even came on and helped steady in ship in Barcelona’s comeback win against Levante last weekend.
The club’s official statement did not provide much clarity about the nature of the setback the player has suffered, and Flick will hope he is back for Barcelona’s first game at home after the international break.
