Rangers are close to completing their latest signing of a busy transfer market, with a €15 million attacker earmarked to replace Hamza Igamane.
The Morocco international striker controversially left the Glasgow giants on Friday, when a blockbuster €12 million sale to Ligue 1 outfit Lille was confirmed.
Igamane had proven to be a dead weight under the leadership of new manager Russell Martin, having been tempted to move to France. According to the Gers boss, the 22-year-old forward had refused to come onto the field during last week’s Premiership draw with St Mirren and he was subsequently left out of the squad that lost 6-0 against Club Brugge in the Champions League playoff on Wednesday.
Rangers have acted quickly to secure a replacement for the North African, though.
According to The Daily Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, a deal for Everton forward Youssef Chermiti is on the verge of being struck.
On X, he reports: “Rangers are in the final stages of completing a deal for Portuguese striker Youssef Chermiti from Everton. Deal is virtually agreed.”
The 21-year-old, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €15.4m, is heading to Glasgow on a temporary basis.
Everton manager David Moyes confirmed on Friday: “He’s got a good chance of going on loan.”
Youssef Chermiti: A signing to split the fanbase
Many Rangers fans are already concerned by the number of loan deals the club have struck this summer, particularly given the underwhelming nature of the performances from the likes of Nasser Djiga and Max Aarons in the early weeks of the campaign.
And while Chermiti arrives with a big reputation, his record does not back this up.
He only has four career goals to his name in senior football and has not scored for Everton’s first team, albeit his 24 appearances have largely been fleeting outings as a substitute.
