Tottenham leading race for Manchester City player – Crystal Palace also in running

In the last couple of days, AC Milan have been pursuing a move for Manchester City’s Manuel Akanj after Galatasaray missed out on the defender. The Italian side are now facing competition from Tottenham and Crystal Palace in the race for the centre-back.

Gazzetta dello Sport report today that the 30-year-old is Milan’s ‘number one target’ to bolster their backline.

Manchester City want €15m plus bonuses to sell the Switzerland international and while an agreement with the Citizens won’t be a problem for the Citizens, the Rossoneri are facing competition from Tottenham and Crystal Palace.

Thomas Frank’s side are currently leading the race and the Eagles are said to be trailing in third.

As of now, Galatasaray are out of running as Akanji didn’t agree personal terms with the Turkish side. The newspaper note that Tottenham’s advantage in the race is largely because of their presence in the Champions League.

Akanji is keen on playing in that competition and that is why Crystal Palace and Milan are behind in the race.

An agreement with Manchester City for any of the three clubs will not be a problem, and everything will come down to the Swiss defender’s final decision.
