European nights under the lights are back at St James’ Park this season, and there’s some mouthwatering ties coming up over the next few months for Newcastle United fans.
Thursday’s draw placed us against arguably the two best teams on the continent right now in Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. Hansi Flick’s free scoring side will come to Tyneside, whilst we have a chance of redemption against the European champions when we go to Paris.
Alongside those two huge clashes, there’s tough games ahead against the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Athletic Bilbao and Benfica, as we play in the ‘league phase’ format of the UCL for the first time.
Here are the confirmed dates for each fixture, and just how much it might impact some of our Premier League and Carabao Cup fixtures moving forward…
Date for Barcelona and other home games confirmed
-------------------------------------------------
Newcastle United will host the Spanish champions on the 18th of September on Matchday 1 of this season’s competition.
Benfica travel to St James’ Park on the 21st of October, with Athletic Bilbao arriving a fortnight later.
And our final home game of this season’s competition will be on the 21st of January against PSV Eindhoven.
Paris, Leverkusen, Marseille and Brussels dates scheduled
---------------------------------------------------------
Our return to the Parc Des Princes will take place on Matchday 8 on the 28th of January, where our hopes of reaching the knockout rounds could depend on getting a result against Luis Enrique’s side.
Our only non-8pm kick-off will be against Union Saint-Gilloise, where we play at 18:45 European time in Brussels.
Rounding out our European away days for the league phase will see us go to Marseille and Leverkusen on the 25th of November and 10th of December respectively.
The full list of fixtures and dates are:
* 18/09/25 – Barcelona (H)
* 01/10/25 – Union Saint-Gilloise (A)
* 21/10/25 – Benfica (H)
* 05/11/25 – Athletic Bilbao (H)
* 25/11/25 – Marseille (A)
* 10/12/25 – Bayer Leverkusen (A)
* 21/01/26 – PSV Eindhoven (H)
* 28/01/26 – PSG (A)
How may this impact our Premier League schedule?
------------------------------------------------
With our game against Barcelona taking place on Thursday night, it will likely push our game away to Bournemouth, currently pencilled for Saturday the 20th, to Sunday the 21st.
The trip to Leverkusen is sandwiched in an awful run of games in December: the derby at the Stadium of Light is just three days later, in a month which already includes games against Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United.
And our final game of the league phase against PSG will take place between the home game against Aston Villa on the 24th of January and the trip to Anfield on the 31st.
