There is a growing expectation that Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak will complete his move to Liverpool before the transfer deadline, journalist David Ornstein has revealed.
The Sweden international could reportedly secure his desired move to Anfield in the closing stages of the summer transfer window, following Newcastle’s signing of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart.
The St James’ Park side confirmed Woltemade’s arrival in a club-record £69m deal on Saturday, which increases Isak’s chances of departing before the deadline on Monday.
Ornstein claims Liverpool remain keen on landing Isak before the deadline, despite not returning with an improved offer following Newcastle’s rejection of their opening £110m proposal.
There is still room for the situation to evolve before the window shuts, with Isak refusing to play for Newcastle again and remaining determined to secure his dream transfer.
Ornstein: Isak Could Join Liverpool Before Deadline
Alexander Isak in action for Newcastle United
Ornstein, speaking on TNT Sports, revealed that St James’ Park chiefs sense Isak’s move to Liverpool could happen before Monday’s transfer deadline:
“I think it's looking increasingly like [Isak's destination is] Liverpool, but still a lot needs to happen for that to take place.
“So you cannot rule out him staying at Newcastle, but even at St James' Park, I think there's a growing expectation now that a move to Liverpool could happen.”
