“No wonder Liverpool want him” – Teammate defends Alexander Isak, Newcastle situation blown out of proportion

Liverpool have already made an attempt to sign Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak this summer.

Claims from the UK said Liverpool have seen £110m bid get rejected by the Magpies, who are reportedly requesting £150m.

Newcastle’s refusal to let the striker move to Liverpool has seen him refuse to train with the first team. The Sweden international hopes to secure a move to Anfield before Monday’s deadline.

Isak publicly said “promises were made” by the Premier League club, which was quickly dismissed by the latter.

AIK Fotball’s Anton Salétros has now come out in defence of the 25-year-old, and [Expressen](https://www.expressen.se/sport/fotboll/landslaget/anton-saletros-stottar-alexander-isak-ar-ingen-konstighet/) have relayed his comments.

Salétros played alongside Isak at AIK’s academy and their senior team, and the two have also been played together for the Sweden national team.

When asked to share his views on Isak’s current situation with the English club, he backed Liverpool’s interest.

_“First and foremost, he’s a fantastic footballer. It is no wonder that Liverpool, as one of the world’s biggest clubs, wants him,”_ he said.

_“I don’t have enough insight into the situation. What they have agreed on, what has been promised, what has not been promised. It is difficult for me to say.”_

The AIK midfielder indicates the Isak-Newcastle saga has been blown out of proportion.

_“This happens every day for clubs. They have also signed contracts with players that they send down to the B-team, or do not let them train with the team. In other words, send them out to run without the ball in the afternoons. This happens every day. Clubs do this to players who have families to support with their jobs,”_ Salétros explained.

_“They say that players who have signed a contract should play and be quiet. When clubs do this to players, nothing is said. You can see it in different ways.”_

Salétros isn’t surprised Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has included Isak in the squad for September’s World Cup qualifiers.

_“I’m pretty sure that he trained well himself. It is not strange. Then of course there is a difference between playing matches and training with a team,”_ he added.

_“There is a little difference, but if I have to choose between 50% Alexander Isak or zero percent Alexander Isak, I will take 50%.”_
