Unai Emery emphasises Aston Villa ‘need’ players as deadline day looms

One point from two matches reads poorly at this stage of the season, and so does the work of Aston Villa in the transfer window. Unai Emery was clear in his presser that the camp "needs" additions.

‘We have to try to improve our squad’

Ezri Konsa is back in contention after serving a suspension for a straight red card from a 0-0 draw with Newcastle United. But Boubacar Kamara could be out after his display ended in 16 minutes at **Brentford**with a hamstring injury. Indeed, Emery indicated that a few absences are a possibility.

“We will see tomorrow, I don’t want to anticipate. We have players injured but I will want to train and see how we can use the players in the squad for Sunday. Before that, I don’t want to say anything.”

The window has remained a quiet one for Villa months after they missed out on Champions League football with a controversial 2-0 loss to **Man United**at Old Trafford. Now, they are paying the price.

**UEFA**handed the Villans a £9.5 million fine for their failure to comply with financial regulations. The club has only bought deputy shot stopper **Marco Bizot**and former **Nice**forward Evann Guessand.

*“We are busy and we are involved in it the last days. We have to try to improve our squad. We have enough players to get a good result with those players. We have young players, they are training with us every day, and they will be, in their development, important players for the future of Aston Villa.”*

To make matters worse, numbers have been dropping by the week. Jacob Ramsey has put pen to paper with Newcastle United, and **Leon Bailey**has joined **AS Roma**on loan. On top of that, **Alex Moreno**has returned to Spain to sign for **Girona,**and Leander Dendoncker is now at Real Oviedo.

*“We need to try and switch some players, they left, like Jacob Ramsey and Leon Bailey. We need now to try to join some players in our squad, helping us with their performance that they can give us.”*

Emery has faith in the options he already has, but the Basque has also expressed a desire for a right forward to provide the output absent from Bailey in the last twelve months. If Villa want to fight on three fronts once more, they might need to develop extra depth internally with their youth system.

*“But, of course, we have enough players in the squad, we have some young players, they are training with us, they are ready as well to help us. Of course, they need time as well, to get progressively everything we will need for our demands, but they will play this year, matches, and of course, it’s our responsibility as well to try to support, help them, to get their development playing in Aston Villa.”*
