Tottenham Hotspur leapfrogged Chelsea to secure the services of Dutch prodigy Xavi Simons. The player will now don the white of Tottenham after successfully completing his medical.
Top-rated football pundit, David Ornstein, has confirmed that the player is securing his north London move. Tottenham agreed terms over a £53m deal with RB Leipzig over the transfer of the Dutch sensation.
The recent developments in the transfer market might come as a shock to the Stamford Bridge faithful, who were believed to be in pole position to land the 22-year-old winger this summer.
Spurs’ late push pays dividends
Thomas Frank’s negotiating team failed to land the gaffer’s primary two targets for the summer in Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White. The ACL injury suffered by James Maddison in pre-season only made matters go from bad to worse for the north London club.
Tottenham Hotspur were compelled to seek other solutions in the market and landed on Xavi Simons, a long-term Chelsea transfer target. With a medical successfully completed for Simons, the club is now focused on settling the Dutchman in after wrapping up the formalities of the deal.
The London-based club will fork out a serious fee for the services of Simons but not the extortionate £60+million Como wanted for Nico Paz. The player will directly slot into the number 10 role at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, the club did not celebrate in advance, having tasted bitterness with a similar situation involving Chelsea in 2013 when Willian decided to join the Blues after a medical at Spurs.

Leipzig understood the value of Simons hence their approach
It is understood according to people close to the deal that Xavi was allowed to prematurely travel to London by RB Leipzig in order to undergo a medical examination before terms were finalised. The Bundesliga side have taken a practical approach to this transfer with extremely limited time at their disposal.
The club only provided the go-ahead to the move once the full financial conditions of the deal were completely met.The club were well aware of the asset on their hands and included performance-related additions in the deal that could see the price move up to £60 million in the future.
Xavi now embarks on a new journey in his young career, already boasting of the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, PSV-Eindhoven and RB Leipzig on his resume.
