Pittsburgh Steelers bring back promising cornerback

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed cornerback Daryl Porter Jr. to their practice squad, the team announced. Porter joined the team midway through training camp and impressed coaches quickly, earning him a spot on their practice squad by doing so.

Porter signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in the 2025 NFL Draft, but they cut him last week, giving the Steelers the chance to scoop up Porter.

Porter’s father, Daryl Porter Sr., was drafted by the Steelers in the 1997 NFL Draft and had two different stints with the team over his six-year NFL career. He did not play a game for the Steelers but played three seasons for the Bills.

Daryl Porter Jr. played two seasons with the West Virginia Mountaineers before transferring to Miami ahead of the 2022 season. He ran a 4.58 40-yard dash at his pro day.

Known as a press man cornerback with his length, he fits the Steelers’ philosophy at the position as they continue to stack up on man coverage-focused defensive backs.
