As rumors about the future of Barcelona midfielder Fermín López grow, Hansi Flick has spoken out about Chelsea’s interest in him. The German coach is sure that the player is still an important part of his team as he gets ready for a tough season. Speaking to the press, Flick said:
“At the moment he’s here. I spoke to Fermin and I’m convinced that he will stay…But at the end I don’t know what happens, I will be really happy when the transfer market will be closed.”
Chelsea have been in touch with López’s agents over the last few weeks and are becoming increasingly confident that they will be able to make progress in the talks. Reports say that the London club are getting ready to make an offer of between £50 and £60 million. There have also been talks about selling players to help pay for the deal.
As the Blues continue to rebuild under new leadership, manager Enzo Maresca is said to be very interested in the addition. Barcelona, on the other hand, do not want to sell. The Catalan side are still having money problems, but they see López as a key player for the future.
Flick has stressed how important the La Masia graduate is, especially since he impressed last season with his energy and ability to adapt his tactics. Club officials think he is worth much more than the offers they have received. Former youth director Jordi Roura also said that only a fee of around €120 million would make it worth it to let him go.
Chelsea Has Made Some Big Improvements This Summer
Chelsea have done another big rebuild this summer, and the club is putting a lot of emphasis on youth and long-term potential. The Blues have spent money on players in every position, making Enzo Maresca’s team stronger with a mix of players who are good now and players who will be good in the future.
Ipswich were paid about £30 million for striker Liam Delap, and Brighton also let Joao Pedro go, with the deal going up to £55 million. The arrival of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund for £48.5m and Brazilian prodigy Estevao from Palmeiras for £29m made the options even wider.
The Blues also signed Jorrel Hato from Ajax for £35.5 million and Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg for £12 million to help the defense. They also signed Mike Penders from Genk to help the goalkeepers. Kendry Paez, one of Ecuador’s best young players, and Dario Essugo from Sporting CP added depth to the midfield.
