Nick Woltemade has signed for Newcastle United, ending our search for a top-quality striker as the German giant arrives for a club-record fee from Bundesliga side Stuttgart.
The 6ft 6″ forward seems delighted to be here and has already come across brilliantly in his first big interview, with an over-the-moon Eddie Howe also reacting to his arrival at the end of a long summer.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Howe has explained why the big man is a brilliant fit and the exact profile he was looking for to bolster our attack.
Howe has hailed his technical ability, brilliant character, recent record in a top European league and potential to develop and grow with the club as a 23-year-old German international:
> _“We’re delighted to get Nick’s signing over the line so quickly. He fits the profile for exactly what we have been looking to add to our attacking options._
>
> _“He’s strong in a lot of areas – he has great technical ability and has proven himself to be a real threat in one of Europe’s top leagues – but he’s also still at an age where he has plenty of room to develop and grow here._
>
> _“Nick is a great character too and we’re really pleased to welcome him to the group.”_
Woltemade was the top scorer at this summer’s U21 Euros and enjoyed a stunning season in the Bundesliga last term, scoring 17 goals in 33 appearances and dazzling with his unique mixture of hold up play, creativity and the ability to score all types of goals.
After a summer that has featured failed efforts to sign Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko, Newcastle pounced on Bayern Munich’s inability to agree a fee for Woltemade and might just have brought in the best one of the lot.
