Good afternoon and welcome to the Telegraph’s live coverage of the four Premier League matches kicking off at 3pm this afternoon.
Manchester United welcome Burnley to Old Trafford, just days on from their humiliating League Cup defeat away at League Two side Grimsby on Wednesday evening.
Head coach Ruben Amorim’s antics during this loss, while sat in the away dugout, subsequently became the subject of intense scrutiny and mockery from many quarters in the game’s aftermath. And the 40 year old’s pre-match comments on Friday would have been unlikely to inspire much confidence amongst his players and and staff, still searching for their first competitive win of the season.
The Portuguese said: “To be really honest, every time that we have a defeat like that in the future I’m going to be like that. I’m going to say sometimes I hate my players and sometimes I love my players.
“Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years. I need to improve on that, it’s going to be hard but now I’m focused on the next game.”
Nevertheless, Amorim remains in the home dugout for today’s fixture against Burnley, in desperate need of improving his team’s wretched run of results in the Premier League, which includes a run of eight losses from their previous 13 home league matches at Old Trafford.
Burnley, on the back of securing their first three points of the season, with their 2-0 home win versus Sunderland last Saturday, will be hoping to earn back to back Premier League victories for the first time since April 2022, while simultaneously piling on the pressure on Amorim before the international break.
Elsewhere, Sunderland will look to bounce back from their defeat away at Burnley, as they take on Brentford at the Stadium of Light, who travel up to the north-east buoyed by their 1-0 home triumph against Aston Villa last Saturday.
Tottenham could end this round of fixtures, as only one of two teams to have won their first three Premier League matches this campaign, as Thomas Frank’s side prepare to pit their wits at home against a Bournemouth team, who earned a hard-fought 1-0 home win against Wolves last weekend.
Finally, Wolves are in still in search of their first points of the season, after two losses from their opening Premier League fixtures, although the home fans will be heartened by their League Cup exploits in midweek, where they clinched a dramatic 3-2 win at Molineux against West Ham.
Everton will be the team travelling to Molineux this afternoon, and David Moyes’ side will now be keen to get their party started on the road this season, having christened the opening of their brand-new stadium with two wins: a 2-0 win against Brighton last Sunday, followed by another 2-0 League Cup win in midweek against Mansfield.
Team news to follow.
