Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is set to join Napoli on a season-long, with includes an obligation to buy.

The Manchester Evening News reported on Tuesday that Napoli were closing in on the loan signing of Hojlund.

United will receive a €6million (£5.2m) loan fee for Hojlund and €44m (£38m) next summer when the obligation, which depends on certain conditions, is triggered. United will avoid a loss on Hojlund under the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) if the obligation is met.

United signed Hojlund from Atalanta for £64m rising to £72m in the summer of 2023.

Hojlund was axed from Ruben Amorim's plans despite featuring in pre-season. Speaking in the USA, Hojlund outlined his desire to fight for his place but was subsequently omitted from the squad against Arsenal, Fulham and Grimsby.

United made Hojlund available for transfer following the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a £73.62million deal on August 9. The MEN reported in May that Hojlund had lost the confidence of senior figures at the club.

The MEN revealed earlier this month that sources close to Hojlund felt he would have to leave if United brought in a new centre forward.

Napoli were crowned Italian champions last season and Hojlund is set to rekindle his relationship with Scott McTominay, who was a revelation in Naples after leaving United last summer.

Napoli boss Antonio Conte has moved to sign Hojlund after an injury to former United striker Romelu Lukaku.
