West Ham’s season has been nothing short of a nightmare on the pitch — three defeats from three, just three goals scored and a whopping 11 conceded. But off the pitch? Things are at least looking a bit brighter in the transfer market.
The Hammers finally landed Mateus Fernandes from Southampton — despite their relegation, Fernandes was the Saints’ standout performer last season and showed the sort of bite and tenacity Graham Potter’s midfield has been crying out for.
Add in the recent arrival of 21-year-old Soungoutou Magassa from AS Monaco, and suddenly the engine room is beginning to take shape.
And now, it seems Potter isn’t done yet. A third midfield signing could be on the way as he completely reinvents West Ham’s midfield core.

According to a fresh report from journalist Florian Plettenberg, West Ham are exploring a deal for Dutch international Quinten Timber.
The Hammers could rival Bayer Leverkusen for his signature, with the German side seeing Timber as their top choice should Aleix García depart. Negotiations are already underway, with Erik ten Hag also believed to be a long-time admirer.
Timber — whose twin brother Jurrien already plays in the Premier League with Arsenal — was a key figure last season, making 26 appearances (2,054 minutes), scoring six goals and grabbing one assist.
He’s already been dubbed “extraordinary” by Mikel Arteta, and with Fernandes and Magassa adding steel, Timber could be the final missing piece of Potter’s midfield rebuild.
