Chelsea are giving a transfer market masterclass when it comes to moving on from players who are no longer deemed fit to our purposes. The latest example of that is Christopher Nkunku, who has left Stamford Bridge in a permanent move to Italian outfit AC Milan on a reported €42m fee.
Nkunku arrived at Chelsea from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in summer 2023. However with a knee injury suffered during that first pre-season making him miss the start of the 2023-24 season, it became really hard for him to find any sort of footing under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
After recovering from the injury and getting fit once again, more chances would come in the following season with Enzo Maresca at helm. Still Nkunku didn’t really impress in those opportunities beyond a few Conference League group stage matches, largely featuring as a substitute in Premier League games where he scored three goals in 27 appearances.
Now at AC Milan, who already boast a contingent of former Blues such as Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Nkunku can only hope the winds will blow in his favour. With many balloons to follow.
Best of luck, Christopher!
