Manchester United are prepared to part ways with Rasmus Hojlund, with the striker now destined to join Italian side, Napoli. Hojlund does not fit the scheme of things at Old Trafford this season under Ruben Amorim.
The Athletic reports that the Danish striker is now on course to join Antonio Conte at Naples. Napoli were on the hunt for a number nine after having Romelu Lukaku sidelined with a thigh strain. The Belgian forward sustained that injury in pre-season.
Manchester United signed Benjamin Sesko earlier this month to add to their attacking depth. Hojlund has been put on the transfer list, having not made it to the matchday squad on any occasion this season. The departure of the forward also eases the financial pressure on the club after having spent big money in the transfer window.
Details of the Hojlund deal
Rasmus Hojlund will initially join the Serie A side on a season-long temporary move. The deal includes a conditional obligation to buy priced at £38 million. Napoli will be obliged to sign the player if they qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. Manchester United will also receive a loan fee if a permanent signing is made.
The 22 year old Danish international is not certain about a move to Napoli. The player believes that he can yet deliver an impact at Old Trafford and will be ready to fight for his place in the squad despite heavy artillery being added over the course of the summer.
Napoli have not been the only club ringing Manchester United about Hojlund, Atalanta, RB Leipzig, and Newcastle United have also been keeping tabs on the player’s situation in England. If not Napoli, Hojlund could also be tempted to return to his former employer, Atalanta who are also known to be monitoring the situation.

What will Amorim decide?
In a busy transfer window for Ruben Amorim & Co. the club is banking on the fresh talent added to the squad in the window. This summer marked the arrival of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, making game time look even more challenging for Hojlund.

As of now, the forward is not a part of the plans for Amorim. However, the situation could change if the deal with Napoli fails to go through. Hojlund is yet to be called on by Ruben Amorim this season, clearly indicating his intention to get rid of the striker. The United gaffer has been quoted as saying –
“It is a fight for the places, we will see what is going to happen on the market. Different characteristics. Rasmus has the same characteristics as Ben Sesko, so sometimes we need to choose.”
