Brentford will face Sunderland for the first time as Premier League opposition on Saturday as the Bees make the long trip north to the Stadium of Light. It was all the way back in February 2018 that the two teams last met in England's second tier, having embarked on very different journeys in the soccer pyramid since then.
Both teams have won once and lost once in the top flight so far this term, and Sunderland was particularly proud of a 3-0 win at home to West Ham on the opening weekend. The Black Cats will hope to use the Stadium of Light to its advantage once again, but take on an opponent it hasn't managed to beat in 37 years.
Regis Le Bris was disappointed to lose 2-0 against fellow promoted outfit Burnley last weekend, where key defender Daniel Ballard had to come off with an injury. The Northern Irishman will miss the visit of Brentford and is likely to be replaced by Jenson Seelt as Le Bris continues to promote a line-up dotted with young talents.
Brentford bagged a first win of the campaign against Aston Villa last weekend as new record $58 million signing Dango Outtara grabbed his first goal for the club. The Bees have since knocked Bournemouth out of the League Cup with a 2-0 win on the road and are targeting more success away from home in the north-east.
