Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is preparing to make the most of the final days of the summer transfer window, with reports from HandofArsenal suggesting the Italian is closely monitoring the market for late opportunities.

With the deadline fast approaching on Monday, September 1, Berta’s strategic approach could yet see the Gunners add further reinforcements to Mikel Arteta’s squad for the 2025/26 campaign.

Since his arrival from Atlético Madrid in March, Berta has overseen a busy and ambitious transfer window at the Emirates. Arsenal have already completed deals for Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Viktor Gyokeres, and Eberechi Eze, as well as securing Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie on a season-long loan.

Despite this flurry of activity, Berta is reportedly keeping the door open for additional moves, particularly if an opportunity arises to bring in a versatile forward or extra midfield cover, provided it fits the club’s long-term strategy and financial framework.

Alongside transfer business, Berta is also leading negotiations to secure the futures of Arsenal’s two biggest stars, Bukayo Saka and William Saliba. Both players are considered central to Arteta’s project as Arsenal aim to challenge for both the Premier League and Champions League titles.

Saka, 23, is coming off a stellar 2024/25 campaign in which he registered 14 goals and 11 assists in the Premier League, cementing his status as one of Europe’s top wingers. Saliba, 24, has been equally pivotal, forging a dominant partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes at the heart of Arsenal’s defence.

Their current contracts run until 2027 and 2028 respectively, but Andrea Berta is pushing to extend and improve their deals to ward off interest from Europe’s elite clubs.

The dual focus on strengthening the squad and securing long-term commitments from key players underscores Berta’s reputation as a meticulous and forward-thinking operator. During his time at Atlético Madrid, he was credited with bringing in top talents such as Antoine Griezmann and João Félix, and Arsenal supporters are hopeful he can replicate that level of success in North London.
